After watching the show Extreme Couponer's, I decided to give it an honest try. I have to admit, I was very intimidated by the process. I studied up and made my first go. I completely botched the first trip. I went in with a few manufacturers coupons for one item. You can't do that. You can only use one manufacture coupon per item. Silly me. My second attempt was much more successful. I went in with one coupon for $1.00 off colgate toothpaste and it was on sale for 10 for $10. My first free item! One month into it and I now have a trusty folder holding 100+ coupons. I found a great deal today on ALL Laundry detergent. It was on sale at Fred Meyers 2 for $6. The store had a coupon in their weekly ad 2 for $5. You actually have to clip this or upload it to your store card to get the extra dollar off. On top of that, I had manufacturer coupons for All $3.00 off 2. With the Fred Meyer coupon and my manufacturer coupon, I was able to buy 2 bottles for $2! Making them only $1.00 each (You can combine a store coupon with a manufacturer coupon!) In my area (Pacific NW), they range from 6.50 to 7.50 each! I totally scored and now have a small stock pile of All Laundry detergent. A necessary item for three messy kids. Messes I encourage ;)

My first couponing let down. I experienced the shelf cleaner scenario. I had 4 coupons for $3.00 off Schick disposable razors. Walmart had a sale for $1.97. I would have made $4.00 on this couponing trip. My first yet! My highest savings percentage is 80% This would have brought me to the ultimate thresh hold! A money making trip. With 3 kids in tow, I made my way out to buy razors and milk. We go through 2 gallons a day. Does that seem like a lot to you? It does to me. I don't even drink milk.
I get to the aisle to find that there are no more razors in stock. Someone or persons had beat me to the stock! I have to admit, I was bummed. But I had to let it go. If there were only 4 left, I would have been the shelf cleaner. Almost got it. I had the coupons.

With all the couponing Freebies and being stocked up for years with personal hygiene items, I started creating these little baggies filled with toothpaste, deodorant, tooth brushes and razors so that my friends can keep them in their car and hand them out to homeless people looking for money at crosswalk intersections. There's only so much of this stuff that we can personally use and I couldn't see free items going to waste. I'm happy to say that the response has been amazing! I'm looking forward to including protein bars and other snacks I get for free too.
My new favorite app to help me keep track of all the great store deals matched up to the active coupons is Favado. It's been helping me score the free deals too!
